Involvement in research: introduction

Introductory

Welcome to our short module on Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE). This is an introductory module to PPIE, where we include short videos to help you understand the importance of PPIE in research. You will also find links to other resources and useful reading content to help consolidate your learning.

This module is to be taken in your own time to help you build your knowledge of involving and engaging with patients and the public. We will also organize a workshop every few months that you are welcome to attend where we can discuss your learning and work through case studies.

Learning Objectives:

  • To understand the different types of involvement and approaches used in research, and how this can translate to other areas of health and care
  • To be agreed – pick out relevant bits from part one and add as needed

Co-applicants in research

When using the term 'co-applicant' we mean an individual who is involved in the development of a funding application and, if funded, has some responsibility as part of the team for the management and/or delivery of the study. Public co-applicants can be valuable members of the research team, having an input into the development of the grant application and ensuring that the study remains centred on patients’ needs.

In this lesson we will explore how to embed and support co-applicants in research.
